Seedance 2.5 vs Veo 3.1: which AI video model should you use?
By Daniel Riley · Published · Updated
In short: Seedance 2.5 is the pick when a scene needs length or lots of references: up to 30 seconds of picture and sound from one generation, plus lip-sync from an image and audio. Veo 3.1 is the pick when a line of dialogue or a sound effect has to land on an exact moment, on clips of 4, 6 or 8 seconds at up to 4K. Seedance 2.5 and Veo 3.1 share one PromptWise plan, from $19 a month.
Both models make picture and sound together, so they’re natural rivals for talking scenes, UGC ads and short films with audio. Seedance 2.5 comes from ByteDance and Veo 3.1 from Google DeepMind. They take different routes: Seedance goes long and takes lots of references, while Veo keeps clips short and focuses on tight audio sync.
Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1 and Elevenlabs v4 are all in the $19 Starter plan. Every model is available as soon as you sign up. See plans

What is Seedance 2.5?
ByteDance’s Seed team released Seedance 2.5 on 31 July 2026 and framed the launch around “30-second storytelling”: twice the 15 seconds of Seedance 2.0, in a single generation, with picture and sound made together on the audio-video architecture 2.0 introduced. The other big change is how much you can feed it, with up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips as references. ByteDance also claims smoother motion and more realistic visuals.
For scenes with dialogue, it’s the model we reach for first. Veo is great for a single line, but most of our scenes run longer than 8 seconds. Seedance 2.5 gives us up to 30 seconds with the sound in one take, so there’s nothing to stitch together.
What is Veo 3.1?
Google DeepMind built Veo 3.1 for picture and sound that arrive together, under the banner “Video, meet audio”. For talking scenes, the relevant upgrades over Veo 3 are richer audio and closer prompt adherence, so a line written in quotation marks tends to come out as written; Google also cites a better grasp of cinematic styles and image-to-video. PromptWise offers three versions: Quality for the take you keep, Fast for day-to-day clips and Lite for trying ideas out.
Clip length and storytelling
Length is the biggest difference. Seedance 2.5 can make a whole 30-second scene, with its sound, in one generation: a complete product demo, a short testimonial or a story beat with a beginning, middle and end. Veo 3.1 clips are 4, 6 or 8 seconds, so each one is a single beat, and a longer scene is several clips joined in an editor.
Dialogue and audio sync
Veo 3.1 is built around sound that matches the action, so for a short scene where a line or an effect has to hit an exact moment (a door slam, a glass clinking, a punchline), it’s usually the faster route to a finished clip. Google is also clear that natural, consistent speech, “particularly for shorter speech segments”, is still being improved, so listen to every line before you publish.
Seedance 2.5 generates sound with the picture too, and adds something Veo doesn’t do in PromptWise: lip-sync to your own audio. Give it an image of a character and an audio clip, and it makes the character speak those exact words. That’s the better choice when the script and voice are fixed, such as a brand voiceover or a scripted UGC read.
Prompt: A man at a kitchen table opens a parcel, looks surprised and says “They actually sent the green one!”, the tape rips and paper rustles, 9:16.
Scripted voiceovers and UGC ads
For UGC ads, the two models suit different scripts:
- Short hook, generated voice: Veo 3.1. Describe the creator and the setting, put the line in quotation marks and pick 9:16. Keep the line short enough for 8 seconds.
- Set script, chosen voice: Seedance 2.5. Make the voiceover with Elevenlabs v4 in the same studio, give Seedance 2.5 an image of your creator plus the audio, and generate a clip of up to 30 seconds.
Prompt: A woman in her twenties holds up a jar of face cream to her phone camera in a bright bathroom and talks about why she switched, 9:16, natural light.
Realism and look
Both produce realistic, cinematic footage. ByteDance points to smoother motion and more realistic visuals in 2.5, and in our testing it gives the better overall result in most areas. Veo 3.1’s strengths are prompt adherence and cinematic style, according to Google, which makes it reliable when you describe a specific camera move or lighting set-up. For a shot that matters, run the same prompt on both.
Prompt: Slow dolly shot through a misty forest at dawn, a deer lifts its head and looks at the camera, birdsong and a distant stream, 21:9 or 16:9.
Resolution and formats
Veo 3.1 Quality and Fast go up to 4K; Seedance 2.5 goes up to 1080p. If you need Seedance at 4K, Seedance 2.0 runs up to 4K on clips of up to 15 seconds. Seedance 2.5 has six aspect ratios, including 21:9 for a cinematic frame and 1:1, 4:3 and 3:4 for feeds; Veo 3.1 offers 16:9 and 9:16.
References and control
If you have material to work from (product photos, a character sheet, a music track, a voice clip), Seedance 2.5 can take it all in as references. Veo 3.1 in PromptWise takes a start and an end frame, which is a simple, reliable way to control a shot’s first and last moments. Both work well from a start frame made in the same studio with Nano Banana Pro or GPT Image 2.5.

How much a clip uses depends on the model, the clip length and the resolution, so a 30-second Seedance 2.5 take and an 8-second Veo 3.1 clip are priced differently. PromptWise pricing and models lists current costs, and the Generate button shows the exact number before you commit. Each billing month brings a fresh balance with no rollover, and credits for a failed generation are refunded automatically. More on billing, cancelling and refunds.
